New emergency and spillway closing notification system is in beta testing!

The Emergency Management Committee with the cooperation and assistance of Lake Wildwood Security is now beta testing a notification system for emergencies and spillway/gate closings. The intent is to give residents timely notice of spillway and gate closings as well as any other emergency notifications. There will be 2 main methods: A text message delivered to your cell phone and a tweet on twitter.com. I will add an email option if there is enough interest, but the cell phone option will be the fastest way to get notified.

If you would like to sign up for the text message method, send an email to: alerts@abetterwildwood.org with your cell phone number. We need some volunteers to make sure it works with all the cell phone carriers, plus we’re tired of texting to ourselves! I will be doing a weekly test on each Sunday at 3PM, at least until we’re out of beta status.

On twitter.com, simply subscribe to lwwemc.

A warning: If you don’t have texting as part of your cell phone plan, it may cost from 10 to 20 cents per received message. There will not be an excessive amount of messages sent under normal circumstances, but keep that in mind.
